Phase vs Phase shifter
Ok guys, Thinking of getting a Phase pedal to get some cool EVH sounds. He's used the
MXR Phase
90 for ages, Vai also uses the Phase 90 & 100 and EVH actually has a signature
EVH Phase
90 with MXR now.
Is the Boss PH-3 phase shifter the same as MXR phase? Phase vs Phase shifter, what is the difference? There alot more controls on the Boss one.

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
I tried all 3, started with the Phase 90 but ended up with the 100 as it offers you more control, the Boss was noisy although the Phase 100 is more subtle (at some settings) than the Boss.

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
Same thing, both are phasers or phase shifters, whatever you want to call them. The Phase 90 is the VH sound, but the Boss is very cool too, has alot of extra features like step phase, kind of a chopped up phase sound. I've used all three have a 90 in my pedalboard, does everything I need. I also tried the new EVH Phase 90 next to the regular one, the difference in sound was minimal but the difference in price was significant, so I have the plain vanilla, um, orange, one.

+1
I compared a EVH 90 with a 100 at the store, and the 100 can do everything the EVH can, PLUS a LOT more. I dont understand why its not more common.
the Boss phaser sounds fake and digital to my ears, the MXR's sound like a real pedal. And Boss's are noisy.

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
i too have been looking at the phase pedals but i havent tested any yet, so basically the evh 90 isnt as good as the 100 but it is like the same price because it is a signature pedal?

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
I think the Boss phase has alot of controls on it making it a bit more complicated to achieve the sounds we want. I've got phase on my Boss GT-6, but find there to me too many settings, too many parameters on multi effects to actually get what I want when I want. Much nicer and easier to have the actual dials there and then.

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
OK, just been trying out the EVH Phase 90, just got it in today.
Its a thumbs up! Can get some nice cool smooth EVH sounds from it, and even go into some real cool shimmery warbles that make clean playing alot of fun!

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
I tried all three yesterday:Phase 100, Phase 90 reissue, and an EVH Phase 90.
The EVH was alot smoother and clearer than the reissue 90. The Phase 100 is also very smooth, but the EVH seemed "louder"
So, GRR, I WAS decided on the Phase 100, so now I dont know what to do. BAH!! Need more tests...

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
You wont be dissapointed with the EVH, its amazing!
I took it along to the studio tonight, and when you switch it on, the light on it is blue! A real bright blue led, so the drummer switched the studio lights off for a while and we played over the evh phase and got a cool silhouette on the ceiling, all the more reason to get one LOL! But seriously, it IS one hell of an amazing pedal!

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter

Re: Phase vs Phase shifter
Clean it is very clear adding real nice depth, whatever you want it to do, shimmers or warbles, nice and clear and detailed.
