POD 2.0.....

Guitar Center has these on sale for 249.00. Is this a good price, and how does it compare to an RP-12? I wanna upgrade, but not to a rack just yet. I run my RP-12 thru a 515o head on the clean channel.

How is the distortion, ect?

Thanx in advance, Jeff

You use a digitech distortion in place of the inherent gain on a 5150? Those heads have some of the best gain in the industry!! But to each his own.

YOu need to go try out the POD through YOUR AMP and nothing else...audition it the way you will use it. $249 is a good price...but check **** and you may save a few bucks as these are not rare. I have a POD Pro and the gain options are limitless...the effects pretty much suck but the models are very good.

i have the pod pro and it totally jams! it sounds killer right out of the box! it emulates a mesa really really well and records perfectly right into the board...no micing required! and if you connect it to your cab via power amp....it's insane!

My boy Troy Stetina has recorded whole instructional cds with just this POD and an Ibanez TubeScreamer and the tone just kills... he gets any bands tone almost perfect just with the POD!!! Its on my list of things to get soon.

Also when he goes on shows or guest gigs he just brings his guitar and the POD.. and he is ready to rock, he is awesome.

I have a POD Pro as well, also had the POD bean v.2.0 prior to the Pro. I concur with Shredmaster in that the POD Pro is insane. Coupled with my mesa power amp harmonics just leap off my low B string. I use nearly all the functionality of the Pro which is why I upgraded from the little unit. I wanted digital out, xlr out and simultaneous analog out for my power amp/cabinet stage setup and for my home PC recording setup.

The downside to the Pro and the bean is the effects. They are marginal at best. Don't get me wrong, they are totally usable and some are quite good, but you don't get much flexibility. Getting a midi controller or at a minimum the big line 6 floorboard is a must with either unit.

I just bought a G-Major to solve the effects issues and an AG Stomp to tie up with my POD Pro so I can run my 2027 piezo and magnetic signals separately through a house system, my stage rig and my PC...whatever set up I can dream of, the POD Pro can handle it.

The models are very very good. Mesa tremoverb is my favorite, it is just bone crushing. Can't wait to put some harmonizer on it and that lush TC chorus and delay... fun fun fun.

I'll ask again, how do the effects compare with an rp-12? Anybody used both?

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure how far removed the GNX series is from the RP-12 sound-wise but I've played both the GNX-1 and the POD II. The GNX has better, cleaner-sounding effects.

Is the Pod pro the same as the Pod 2? (apart from being rackmounted, of course)

The Pro has more stuff and from what I've heard it also sounds better with a 24 bit ADA conversion rate. I'm sure the Pod Pro owners will chime in shortly.

Hey badwamajama,

The POD 2.0 and the RP-12 have different "goal".

The POD is an amp modeler that happen to includes effect. The modeling is very good (it's still modeling) but the effects are VERY limited. You may have only one at a time + reverb + delay.

The RP-12 on the other is an effect pedalboard that include some amp modeling. The RP-12 amp modeling is weak IMO compared to the POD 2.0 but it has much better effect.

So if you want effect get an RP-12 if you want good amp (and cabinet) modeling get the POD-2.0.

Distortion wise the POD is NOT a distortion pedal but it model various amp drive channel so it offers a lot of choice. I use a TS-9DX and a MT-2 in combination to the POD though...

BTW Is your 5150 broken?

i can't say enough on the pod pro. it has everything and more than what you need! XLR stereo outs, rca outs, 1/4" outs. man, this is the amp. i can get virtually any tone out of it and i haven't even really tweaked it yet. it has 36 banks.... do you really need more? i use it live and to record right to the board. i have this wicked tone that sounds like a combo of STRYPER (i loved their colorful tight distorted tone), anthrax, and george lynch....and something else....damn, it's tight and juicy! i guess that would be my signature. it's the closest i have come to the sound I WANT. i can't say enough on it. the pod 2.0 is great as well. i can perfectly model a mesa rectofier head but to me it sounds better...randall heads, marshall..... but i like the raw insanity of an out of control mesa and i can get that tone.

i would suggest trying it out as with anything else.
