POD xt PRO with combo amp ?

hey...
i have been told by a handful of guyz that POD xt pro is a direct recording thingy and if i use it with my marshall amp , it'll probably suck ass !! is it true ?!?!
so if i turn off the amp simulation (like gt6) and use the unit as effects box or something ,then will the sound remaing crappy as told previously ?!?!

PS - I have MARSHALL AVT20

Aren't you selling the amp?

If your amp has an effects loop, you should have no problem running the Pod either as a preamp/fx box. Of course it won't sound as good as with a nice tube power amp, but the sounds coming from the POD shouldn't be that badly affected....

What about running the GT-6 into a power amp? Many people enjoy the tone they get out of the GT-6 and it is considered to be a good unit. Just try tweaking it, and go to a store and play with the POD to see if you like it better....

Ok, the AVT20 does not have an FX loop, so I would suggest that if you plan to us4e the GT-6 or a POD, an amp with a fx loop would be a good idea...

I tried it with a cheap marshall and it did indeed suck ass. Steer clear.

what i am unable to understand is that both gt6 and pod have amp simulations but gt6 can be used with a combo amp.. but a pod can't be..if the preamp is the only thing then can i turn off the preamp from pod or gt6 then my processor will be juss like a bunch of individual effects...right ?!?!

I'd be interest to know what the sound comparision is like between GT6 and pod xt as i almost went down the road of line 6...

So in your opinion, which has the better sound qualities?

i think a flat response power amp like the Roland JC is probably the perfect mix for a POD. the results are exactly the same coming out of as they are going in.

I'm guessing your friends don't really understand about this stuff, cause they are wrong. It'll only sound crappy if you don't know how to use your stuff. If you want to use the Marshall for good, you can use the pod for FX effects with no problems, just turn the preamp stuff off. That's what the bypass is for anyway.

Now, obviously, using the preamp on the pod plus the marshall (With dist off of course) won't sound fully right, cause you'll get the tone from one amp mixing with the mashall, so it may sound wierd...but then if you want the marshall sound, stuff the POD and use separate pedals or something like the GT-6...will work better...

IMO if you really want the pod though, just sell your marshall and get a simple Power Amp. That's what I'm planning to do. I already have a 100W poweramp (wich is rack-mountable...will look good with the POD), and then plug the POD before it.
