power attenuator + power amp?

Can I use a power attenuator along with a power amp and preamp. I mean, I don't have tube head amplifier, I have a rack with a power amp and pre amp. Would I put the power attenuator just behind the power amp right before my speaker input on my 4X12b cab? Thanks
