preamp out jack

i have a peavey transtube special II and on the back there is a "preamp out" jack on it. i was wondering if i can hook my amp up directly to the computer through that jack(with a 1/4 to 1/8 converter going into the microphone jack)

thanks in advance

It would be a very thin, trebly, buzzy sound because it's designed to go through a power amp & guitar speaker, which will really tame the highs.

But if you could find a cabinet simulator it might work well. ADA made one, H&K did too, I think. Problem is, with modelers in the $130-150 range, you'd have to really consider what's the better way to go.

The sound of amplifiers through speakers and the sound of the same one through its DI'd preamp out or Direct Out can be night and day. I own 2 of the best amps. The SOldano SLO-100 and the Bogner XTC. I would rather use a POD for DI then either of those. If youve read any of my replies you know Im not a modeling fan and definitly not a Line6 fan but if Im forced to go direct Id rather use the XT.

A decent guitar DI (amp&cab sim) like the ones JESTER suggested can be expensive as well but you would need one to go DI from an output on an amp thats not labeled DI.
