Preamps

Okay, so I'm thinking of buying a Marshall EL84 20/20 power amp, but I'm not sure what to do about a preamp. I'm after rich, crunchy tone with plenty of tone, but I'd like a bit of versatility. The main thing for me is NO DIGITAL. I've looked at the Triaxis and Recto pre, but they look a bit complex and digified, I'm not sure though.

Any suggestions?

Re: Preamps

Price?

The Triaxis is versatile. I've had good experiences with a Rocktron Piranha as well. Affordable and easy to use, although lots of possibilities. There are many preamps out there. And the ones some people advice you to stay away from might be the right one for you, and vice versa. You should try some with the setup you will use.

Might be in England. I've seen three for sale in Norway the last months. You might not be interested in one for £250.

The SansAmp Tech 21 Classic, try that out without a shadow of a doubt. Tone is what this thing is all about...

Re: Preamps

~230 volt. You would have to change the plug, I believe. Nothing major.

Re: Preamps

how could you ever think that something that has 5 tubes in it be digital?!?!

Mesa Quad, JMP-1 and the Triaxis are all great and would go with a 20/20 fine..

Robb hit the nail n the head.
The only thing "digital is the controllers.
The signal path is tube.

Re: Preamps

Not wanting a digital display really limits you on choices. I guess the Mesa Quad would be about best unless you wanted a uber rare Engl or the Carvin one..

Re: Preamps

Which is the Mesa Quad? and the reason I said about a digital Triaxis is that I was reading about it and it has digital stuff and you can dl settings onto it etc., I wasn't sure if the signal itself is digitised at any point.

Re: Preamps

Thats one of the nice things about the Triaxis, you want Petrucci's setting? no problem, you can just DL it and have the Triaxis set itself to it. the guitars signal is all tube in a Triaxis.

this is a quad

Re: Preamps

I see. The Triaxis is nice, but expensive. I look the look of the Engl E530...
