PRS SE?

Hey guys.
I've been looking at a lot of the PRS SE guitars lately, and I've been really impressed with what I SEE.
They seem to have great specs (Mahogany Body & Neck, Maple Top, Set Neck, etc), and the prices seem pretty reasonable (from $300 - $500 used, average).

My question is, how do they measure up? I'm normally an Ibanez guy. I've got 4 Ibanez guitars (RG1620X, RG320QS, RG7620, JPM P4)and I love em. It's my understanding that the PRS SE necks are thicker/fatter than an Ibanez, but I'm not overly concerned with that. My big concern is that I've played Company's lower end guitars and not been impressed, or been thoroughly disappointed, but most of them don't seem to be as well made as the PRS SE's.

So what's everyone's thoughts? Worth the buy or no?

The SE is as nice as any other sweat shop made guitar in it's price range.

Re: PRS SE?

Great guitars for the price. They have really good QC on the line and I've yet to see a problem one (although they must exist). The normal mods are new nut; change out pickups (that's pretty standard for most PRSi though) and new tuners if you like.

As with everything else, try before you buy. They're not all thick necks; wide fat is pretty much baseball bat, wide thin not a million miles away from Wizard 2. Most are painted and the heel is bulky. Very much a matter of taste, but I've become a huge PRS fan.

Great guitars for the money. Not Jem-like by any stretch of the imagination, but more like a Gibson-style guitar with a slightly longer scale - right between a Fender and Gibson scale. Very playable - SE's you can play real gigs with - they're that good.
I too have become a big fan of PRS guitars in the last few years.

Re: PRS SE?

The artist edition se's are really cool for the money, especially used.

The Paul Allender is my favorite and you wouldn't know it cost less than a grand if you didn't look at the headstock.

The necks are both cool in their own ways but i really dig the wide thin, that and the finish on the neck is really really slick (in a good way)

The pickups and tuners are kind of average but that's no big issue.

I really like the flat tops on the double cutaways for picking position.

They have come a long way in the past few years and definately blow away most low end guitars from other company's.
