Re: question about boosting solos

I use my EQ pedal in my Laney's FX loop. So when you turn it on you get a boost in mids as well as volume. Works perfectly.

Re: question about boosting solos

it's not a volume boost but turning down your tone knob during the rhythm and stuff will still push a lot of air and you'll still be heard, then when it's time for the solo's run the tone back up to get that extra brightness/cutting power you need.

Re: question about boosting solos

to close out this topic, the EQ pedal in the effects loop does exactly what I wanted. It bumped the volume quite a bit, had to keep turning the boost down until I found the right amount (about 20%-25% seems to work perfectly) but it's exactly what I've been searching for. Thanks a million!

Re: question about boosting solos

Sounds like you found a solution. I had the same problem with my Legacy. I had a Mesa, with a lead boost that was perfect. I even had a Crate Class A Tube 1x12 that had a lead boost that cut through. But the Legacy? Ahh, no.

So, first I tried the volume pedal thing, after the preamp in the FX loop, but the ones I tried (passive EB and a Little Alligator) were way to sensitive and I'd go from 1-11 in a 1/16 of an inch.

The EQ (GE7) pedal saved my life. I am content to boost the 800, 1.6k and 3.2k - push the level to just a hair under 50% and BAM! I got it.

The EQ on the Legacy is so strange coming off of a Mesa - with my rig I have found that the best tone comes when I drop the bass to almost 50%, 75% mids, 65% treble and 65% presence. YMMV, but this is working well for me.
