QUESTIONS!!!

my friend has 1000 dollars to spend on getting a new guitar and an amp, he was looking at the line 6 spider half stack and a schecter C-1 30th anniversary edition but it cost more than 1000. he likes to play metal, such as metallica and stuff like that but he doesnt play like gigs or anything. so i was thinking maybe he should just get a combo amp and not a halfstack, cause halfstacks are a lil loud for houses and stick with the guitar he wants. what do u guys think?

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

well , there are some great amps out there for really good prices . If he has to have a stack i am going to say go with the ibanez tone blaster stack .
Item number: 250015001373
Item number: 290015408445

if not a stack the combo version is good .

he may be able to pickup a peavey 5150 combo for reasonable , but it is going to loud , very loud .

flea bay item number 120014798296 looks like it will be under 550 .

the paevey xxl does a good hard rock, decent metal sound and they are reasonably priced used

Item number: 110016881625

u think that a combo would be better for house playing then?

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

yeah , if i was just playing in like my bed room or somthing i wouldn't even get a 2x12 i'd get me like a roland cube 30 , or a vox ad30vt .

if you want a kick ass guitar for a good price , get a used ibanez sz520 or sz320 . those things play a lot better then a schecter IMO , and the stock pickups are really pretty good.

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

my friend says he wants something bigger than 30 watts, idk what reason he has for wanting such a big rig for a nongigging guitarist, i asked and he said he wanted to make noise. i guess its cause we are 15 and some 15 yr olds arent as mature in making decisions as i am(no ego intended lol), u know like when u were 15 u prolly wanted a huge ass rig.

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

yeah i did , i thought i needed a head and cab . I got one too . i ended up buying a crate gx1600 with a 2x12 no name cab . I already had bought a line 6 pod and so i just ran the pod into the head's clean channle . It worked alright and sounded ok . I then bought a peavey classic 50 head , then tried out a vox ad60vt, then a peavey xxl and carvin x-100b , then a 5150 , and now i'll be getting a mesa mark 3 and peavey jsx .I also had a peavey xxx super 40 efx , which was cool but i ended up selling due it not having a full middel channle.

I understand what your saying , and i still think that the tone blaster is the way to go , those things can be brutal distortion wise and get pretty chunky great for metal .

I'd still get the 2x12 , you can always buy the 2x12 extension cab later and it would be the same as a stack only easier to move around .

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

I would highly suggest a Line6 Flextone II either the head (just get a fairly good cab) or combo (2x12), it totally rips and you can get it fairly cheap, like under $400..my buddy picked a beat one up at GC for like $200 and it killed with his K-7.

Re: QUESTIONS!!!

nope, the spiders are strictly bedroom/practice amps at best, not really gigable, where as the flextone's are much, much better and far more flexable, they sound great at low and high volumes, and let me tell you, they get loud at 120 watts..it would go with a mid range Marshall cab, but if you go with the combo, the speakers are fine, and can even handle a 7 string without getting flabby and muddy..
