Questions regarding Amplifier

Hi, im currently using marshall mg15cdr. Its quite ****ty isnt it? Im actually looking for a amplifier which can truly "hear" the difference between a plywood guitar and a good one. Im thinking of getting a head and a 4 x 12 cabinet, but its meant for home usage only, will it be alright? Will it worth it if i get such a huge amp but nvr turn up its volume? I don't know, but I always got the feeling that, good amps are always big, how true is that?

Re: Questions regarding Amplifier

Hey, I got the same amp... And yes, it SUCKS! But no, a big amplifier doesn't mean that its a great amplifier. If you don't gig or have a band then i'd say its useless to get a head and a cab. I'd go for a nice tube amp combo..
Try looking at Mesa Boogie F-30 or a Mark IV combo.
Maybe a JSX 212 combo, or a XXX 212 combo.

I was looking for a JSX 212 combo, but its impossible to find one. And now i'm buying a XXX 212 combo.

P.S. Can you be a little more specific? Genre of music, budget?..

Re: Questions regarding Amplifier

i got a budget of >600, for my genres, i love to play songs by eric johnson, eric clapton, g3. Yeah mainly on these 3. I guess tube amp isnt for me, cause i heard to fully make use of tube amps, u need to turn up the volume high, since im using it as home practice.

Re: Questions regarding Amplifier

They told me this before. Its not that it doesn't sound good at low volume, its just that it sounds amazing at hich volume. Trust me, BUY A TUBE AMP! And i'd expand my budget to around $800. You won't get a good amp with only $600 (unless you're lucky).

I'm all for tube when sound matters too.

All you need if you want a good amount of mmmph to it is a 2x12.

Re: Questions regarding Amplifier

Also i heard that tube amp, u cant off it and on it too often or it will get spoilt easily. Is that true? Im thinking of peavey bandit 112, it fits my budget well, but from what I see and hear from comments, it doesnt seems to be a really good choice. Actually the songs that i will be playing are anime beck songs (if u know that), eric johnson stuff, eric clapton stuff, g3 stuff.

Yeah and one more thing, can i plug in my acoustic guitar into electric guitar amps? I know you can plug in electric guitar into a bass amp and not a bass to a electric amp, how about acoustic to electric amp?
