Quick question about 2 amp set up?

hey all i just recently purchased another marshall head.

my first one needed to be repaired and it was going to cost $200 a week to rent a head so i just bought a JCM 900 50watt mk111 for $700

now i own a 1960a cab

now i want to use both heads occasionally i have an A/B switcher,

what i want to know is can i plug both heads into the cab and leave it set on mono?cause both amps will not be played at the same time?

Axess electronics makes some kind of head swticher that will go into one cabinet.. may want to check it out. i;m skeptical.. i think the head transformers would blow, but i dunno... i dunno how it works

What's wrong with just unplugging at the back of the head and plugging into another?

I've used two heads on a 4x12 set to stereo with the effects send and returns of each going into stereo delays and chorus', a simply splendid pleasure!

Re: Quick question about 2 amp set up?

yeah.. he needs to leave it in stereo, which is fine, cuase 2 12s is plenty anyway. but you always have to have something plugged into the back of the head when it is turned on or you'll burn up the transformer in the amp that has no load connected. so unless you plan on powering down the amp in the middle of a set everytime you switch amps, you'll either need some sort of switcher, have to run it in stereo, or buy another cab. I agrre with running in stereo.. really, 2 12s are fine for one head. i run my mesa mark iv with 2 1x12 cabs.. super loud.. and sound good

Ant you're setup is good cause you are running the cab in stereo

Re: Quick question about 2 amp set up?

Others have it right, there must always be a load present at the speaker output of a tube amplifier that is on, otherwise you'll fry the output transformer due to lack of resistance (load).

If you don't have a stereo cab, it's simple to re-wire your existing 4x12...it'll take you like 15 minutes, but you'll need another input jack for the cabinet. Otherwise, you must use a head switcher, tonebone makes one and I think it's like $225 or something, not sure. Neat gear, but it really messes up a pedal board with all the wires going to and fro. Personally, I'd go with a stereo cabinet and an aby switch.

Assuming it's a newer cabinet that will do stereo. Be sure to set the impedence right - 16 ohms for mono and I think 8 ohms for stereo.
I have 2 cabinets so I can use a A-B box on my input for amp switching... but I really don't like the straight cabinet which has G12M-75s as opposed to Classic Leads in the angled one, so I would be more likely to unplug one head and plug it into the other cabinet between songs.

It does have a stereo switch but i want 4X12 for my distored sound,

so i think i might just buy a 2x12 cab for the second head

Hey say if you have 2 heads and 2 cabs and you want to mix the sound and run them at the SAME TIME, what could you do/use?
