Rack 5150 !?

hey dudes

So ive been dreaming about getting a 5150 for a while now, but having trouble getting the £££ together (whats new!)

I noticed this on the bay

http://cgi.****.co.uk/PEAVEY-ROCKMAS...item33561ab6e1

Anyone played through one ? Would it really do the 5150 gain sound ? Something tells me to gofor a 5150 head instead, but this is so much cheaper !

I've owned a Rockmaster and played through a few 5150. They are not the same beast. FWIW, I preferred the Rockmaster.

Re: Rack 5150 !?

I just like the distorted tones better. The Rockmaster has more gain and overall sounds smoother and fatter to me. The 5150 sounded rougher, raspier to me but everyone likes something different. I did pay attention to the cleans because I wasn't that concerned with them.

If your looking for the cleanest cleans all the way to nastiest distorted tones, look no further than the Hughes&Kettner TriAmp MKII! I've had a 5150, still have a Marshall JCM900 and a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier(both are going up for sale soon!) and none of these come close to doing what the H&K can do!

Re: Rack 5150 !?

if ya want good cleans .... forget the 5150 ..... also i have found the 5150 is rubbish at house / bedroom volume ,,,, the peavey has to be gigged and found that volumes over two it starts to sound better ..... for live work it cuts in the band mix very very well ....infact my bogner extc stays at home for giggs although it has a better clean and also sound fantastic at low levels ..... its not perfect but i do love the peavey .... i also sold the cornford mk 50 cos the peavey was more rock ...... well thats what i think anyway ........ if ya want to hear a clip youtube,,,, alive by bullet its a live clip so not great quality and also not my best playing , but hey the 5150 is on it if ya want to listen .
