Rack Newbie - Powering 220 and 110v stuff
I live in England, so the voltage here is 220v, but if I bought say, an American
Peavey classic
50/50, it would be running at 110v, meaning I would have to use a step down transformer, correct? Lugging a transformer around doesn't appeal to me, so is there any way I could change the voltage to 220v, or is there a power conditioner that has an inbuilt transformer?
Thanks people,
~Mylo

Sometimes there is a 110/220 volt switch on amps. Sometimes there are not. I am sure that there is a transformer box you can buy so you can run something that is 110 volts instead of 220, and I do not imagine it could cost all that much.

Re: Rack Newbie - Powering 220 and 110v stuff
I do actually have a transformer - but I wanted to not have to lug it around. It's not a huge problem, just wondered if there was a way around it. Also, I have heard that running poweramps through a transformer makes them run quite hot, and shortens the life of he tubes. Does anyone know if the Peavey Classic 50/50 or 60/60 has a voltage switch?
Thanks,
~Mylo

Check
www.peavey.com
, there is probably a manual online for the amp which will tell you if it can run on 220.
If it doesn't run on 220, you can probably have a tech there replace the 110V power transformer with a 220V one. If it is worth the cost to you.

No way!
45watt is not enough. This is for very little things (CD player....).

There's nothing in the manual about changing voltages - I guess you can't. Might just havta get a tech to change the transformer, or just live with carrying one around. An idea springs to mind - Use one power conditioner for 220v stuff, and one for 110v stuff. Any ideas on this? Any reasons it wouldn't work?

I've got a 110V transformer and its so heavy. Can't you find a UK voltage 50/50? Pardon my ignorance if a UK 50/50 doesn't exsist.

Re: Rack Newbie - Powering 220 and 110v stuff
I posted an ad and have been trawling evilbay, but have yet to see a 220v Peavey 50/50. Might not matter too much now, because I'm probably getting a Marshall 50/50.

My Peavey Classic 50/50 does, but the manual says it doesn't - weird.
I think that there is a 110 version with a ground lift switch, but on the one(export version?) I have there is no ground lift but a voltage selecter in its place.
