Rackmounted live effects

what are the best buys for the money? id like to spend around 300-500 - but i want something that has good versatility (tremolo, phaser, reverb, delay etc) but also that can change patches quickly.

the lexicon mpx1 was great but took a second or two in patch changes

Re: Rackmounted live effects

I'd highly reco the TC G-Major... having owned it and several Lexicon, Boss, & Digitech units, the G-Major has a good variety of high quality FX, is easy to program, and switches relatively quick via MIDI. Since they're $400 new, I believe you can get used ones for $300 or less. Though some people have complained about reliability issues, I've never had any negative experiences.

300 - 500 whats?

Assuming you mean $s, then definately go for the G-Major. The programming wheels can get a bit tetchy, but nothing a good clean now and again doesn't resolve.

I really like my Rocktron Xpression. It gets everything done with a minimum amount of fuss, sounds great and is very easy to navigate around.

Re: Rackmounted live effects

I use a Gmajor also. No problems whatsoever. I use the G7 software editor and an Edirol MIDI->USB adaptor to hook it up to my PC to edit and change patches and make changes. I also have a ground control midi controller to switch patches.

One thing I don't like about the ground control though is that there's NO owners manual to be found anywhere. I got it off E bay and no reply from voodoo labs so for now, I can't turn on and off individual effects like I want to, just changing through patch banks.

The quality of the effects though are amazing. Crystal clear, no tone coloration.

Which GC controller do you have? I can only assume it's the older discontinued model, as Voodoo Labs provide a manual for download on each individual product's page.
