radio announcer voice sound

I need some sort of VST plugin and/or advice on how to record vocals and make them sound huge and ballsy like you always hear on the radio (think Jemfest advertisements) Is it pretty much all in your voice or is there some plugin that can help me?

Re: radio announcer voice sound

I think Bob Oakman should market the "Bob Oakman VST plugin"

Sorry, can't help you...

Re: radio announcer voice sound

Try a decent compressor to get the levels high throughout and an EQ to boost the bass a fair bit. That should help a bit.

I used to be a radio announcer. It's 3 things...

1) Really talk from the diaphragm. Like when you sing (the correct way). Imagine you voice coming from the top of your stomach instead of your throat when you talk.

2) A decent condenser mic. You'll hear MUCH more clarity and bass than with a dynamic.

3) Compression. Most broadcast setups compress the sh!te out of their signal. You'll get a smoother sound and more bass.

Yep, that basically covers it: Talk in a deep voice, use a decent large-diaphragm condensor, EQ a bit, and compress the **** out of it

I got this effect using a Rode NT-1, some EQ, and a Distressor set to compress it rather heavily. I over-compressed a bit, but it sounded awesome, and I suddenly understood how it was done
