Real men re-tolex their amps themselves!

I've re-tolexed my TOL100 head back in black. Don't try this at home. Keep tolex out of reach of children.

That's how it was (photos by the previous owner):
http://www.winisp.net/dmitriy/egg/fawn1.jpg - notice the crappy corner on the bottom left.

http://www.winisp.net/dmitriy/egg/fawn2.jpg - notice the 15+ inch overlap on the bottom, crappy cuts on the grille cleats and reverb tank hanging on 2 screws.

That's what it looks like now:

I actually goofed one corner on the back (the first one, on the bottom left), but not badly, invisible unless you look REAL hard.

Tolex was cut in 2 pieces (as in caseys4us tutorial at Yahoo) and glued using non-flammable DAP contact cement from Home Cheapot.

Got balls to re-tolex your amp into purple snakeskin?

Sure, why not. My 5150 is looking pretty hammered.

Nice job, btw.

Removing the old tolex is the hard part in most cases.
Nice job !

Not in this case. The guy who covered this amp before me was probably running short on glue or something.

www.vibroworld.com has some weird tolex types as well as tweed. The prices specified on their pages aren't the sale prices. The sale prices are 2 times less.

When my Marshall cabinet got some dings on it (about 9 years ago) I started thinking about recovering it. Then over the years it just got worse and worse and now the more f-ed up it gets, the more I like it. It looks like instead of being in the truck it's been attached with a wire and dragged behind the truck.

Dings are fine with me. It's just that this amp was re-covered by someone who shouldn't be allowed within a mile near tolex and glue. When (and if) mine gets dings on it, I'm not gonna re-cover it. But the way it was it just looked cheesy.

Good job with the Tolex - How about a rockin' clothing line featuring Tolex?

Such clothing lines exist. But I'm afraid they aren't for real men.
