Re: Recommend a 212 cab.

Get the Mesa 2x12 recto, it's amazing. Don't cheap out on something else that won't sound as good.

Re: Recommend a 212 cab.

My feeling is that speakers are really the key.

I have a 1936V 2x12 Marshall with Vintage 30 speakers.

The other guitar player of my band has a Harley Benton G212V with 2 vintage 30 speakers (Harley Benton is the brand of German distributor Thomann).

In rehearsal playing conditions, it is almost impossible to find a difference (to my ears at least). And I say that as the owner of the most expensive cabinet.

Perhaps in pure recording studio conditions you could find a difference.

So, you really should focus on finding the right speaker. The box (or the brand of the cabinet) is less important.

Well - there's likely a difference between an open and closed back cab - but yeah - between two closed back cabs with identical speakers I doubt I could tell the difference between them. But if you're gonna throw the thing around - you'd want one thats a little sturdier.

I really like my ADA 2x12 for small gigs/rehearsal, and it was like $165.00 used. I did swap out the Celestions for Eminence speakers.

Re: Recommend a 212 cab.

Vader, Avatar, Carvin Legacy, Mesa 2x12 and even the older 1/12's are sick, I have 2 of those and they are very comparable to the old legacy 2x12. Just make sure if you go mesa to keep an eye for the Black Shadow speakers or the EV-200's, they slay.

I'm not too into my 1x12 Mesa with a Black shadow. But I haven't ran it into crazy heads like I did with the others I have tested
