Recommend a 212 cab.

I'm thinking about adding a 212 cab to my Laney VC50 combo to add some bass to it. I'm looking for a cab that is bassy. The first that comes to mind is the Mesa Rectifier 212. How are the Legacy and Avatar 212 cabs? Do they have as much bottom punch as the Mesa?

The Legacy is a great cab can't go wrong there.

But try a Genz Benz G Flex
One of the best 2 x 12's I have ever played thru was the Genz Benz G-Flex.
It has a killer low end and with the port holes in the bottom you get some killer tones.

The Avatar Vintage series and the Marshall 1936 2x12 have a tight, focused bass response. Very British. The G-Flex can be almost too bassy if you go too far on the EQ.

Sorry I can't help you with the Mesa.

Check out Splawn cabs. The build quality on them is extremely good.

Re: Recommend a 212 cab.

I agree Legacy is a great cab and is priced very well since Carvin has no middle man
Also very light vs. some cabs.

Also I like splawn cabs like waylay said, I've always wanted a Splawn Quickrod.

From what I hear avatar is really good too but most models I am not too into the look.

Never tried a Genz Benz

The Genz Benz looks cool. What are the speakers like in it? Also how much do they typically go for used?

I've got a Mesa rectifier 212 and it's pretty sweet. I was worried about it being too heavy but it's not bad at all to lug around.

The Bogner 2x12 is considered the best one out there by a lot of people. From what I hear it packs the same punch as most 4x12s.

I have settled into a Marshall 1936 stereo cab. Very happy with it.

I had this one in V version (with V30),

People are saying that you may be lucky or not, I wasn't. My one was form 2007 made from cheap MDF board.

Have sent it back straight away.

With sansamp PSA and Marshall 9100 it sounded terrible

For 2x12 cab I think is too oversized! You don't have to add much to get 4x12" size

But, well, it may suit some people. This time I went for Recto 2x12", still waiting for delivery and I hope it will be worth the money!

That is what I am looking for. However, it has to be the older one that is actually made from wood.

+1

I've got 2 Bogner Cubes and they have lots of low end but not muddy. Great mids and highs. These things were as loud as my brand new 1960A.

VHT Fatbottom would be nice too.

I also had a 212 closed back Avatar with Hellatone 60's. Great cab but no bass.

Re: Recommend a 212 cab.

What 2x12 to buy? You're going to get a lot of advice. People push/defend what they know and have. I Have used a legacy cab for many years. Had a 4x12, now have a 2x12. It wasn't very expensive and it works great for me. It's tight and punchy and has V30's which I prefer the tone of. It's really best to take your head to the shop and plug it into as many cabs as you can. But since you're asking, I recommend the Legacy 2x12. Plenty loud, tight, punchy, and not very heavy. And my JSX sits on it perfectly.
