Re: Recommend me a Metronome.....
I've never been much of a metronome user (at least not lately) but I have this little guy, and it does the trick for me.
The only real piece of advice I can offer is to get one that also blinks to the beat, because for some reason that seems to really help as well.
I used to also use this one, it's a pretty good, cheap alternative.

Wittner-Taktell...Regular old pendulum metronome. I've got three. A super mini I carry around just to prove to guys that they can't play in time
, a piccolo one for my use and a very nice 6411, but in rosewood by my piano...Can't beat the old pendulum ones...

In my experience the pendulum ones tend to be louder, and thus better.

These have piqued my interest. Seems rational that a physical impulse would be easier to recognize. Kind of goes back to the tapping your foot theory.
Anyone ever try one?
$100 seems a little steep, however.

Re: Recommend me a Metronome.....
The MA-30 is a great metronome for the money. I've seen on the "site who's name we cannot speak" for $20 new. I need to get one those to keep at work.
When I went for a metronome, I went for the gusto and sprung for a Boss DB-60 ($80 or so). I really love the subdivision options and the ability to store presets. I also wanted to get a metronome that used easy-to-get batteries (not some odd watch style battery) and had a long battery life (the DB-66 is 200 hours).

I also use this one, very convenient with the tuner as well. Good quality and affordable.

Got a Korg MA-30 like elcid's as a gift... and I bought a MetroGnome when it first came out but haven't used it in a while.

Re: Recommend me a Metronome.....
I do need to buy a little pocket-sized metronome for travel and whatnot... I have a Peterson
strobe tuner
with a built in metronome, but 99% of the time, when practicing I just make a quick sketch track in
Fruity Loops
, with a kick on the 1 and a snare on the 3 and a 16th-note hihat groove, and practice to that.
Also worth a look - YMetronome is a pretty good freeware app that is a software metronome that you can set to increase or decrease by a specified number of BPM every specified number of minutes/seconds. Do a search, the program rules.

Re: Recommend me a Metronome.....
Boss DB30. It's got so many great features. I use the tap tempo a lot for when I'm transcribing, to find out the exact tempo. It even plays both 2/3 and 3/2 son clave. It's got 24 kinds of beat and 9 rhythms. It also has reference pitches that you can tune to. It's also small and fits in your pocket. The headphone jack is good for practicing drumming.
I paid 50 bones for mine at the local music store, you can get em a lot cheaper.
