Recommend me a neck builder (preferably UK)

Ok, I've recently found probably the nicest neck I've ever played and it's the neck on the PRS SE (wide/fat.)

I want a new strat but the necks are like a lucky dip when buying online because you can only go off of descriptions.

So,

I want to have a custom neck made to the exact measurements of that PRS neck. That with a nice birdseye maple fretboard, abalone dot inlays, 22 frets and a nice satin finish would be PERFECT. Then I can just pop that on a body and I'll be a happy man.

So who would you guys recommend? I'm not one for having custom jobs done usually, but I can't believe how awesome the neck on this thing is in my hands and to have it with those features and on a nice strat would be a dream come true

Just bare in mind, overseas shipping may kill what'd be a good deal for someone in other countries if you get my meaning.

Wez Venables, sounds like somebody's dad!

Actually Jaden, I forgot that you did this kind of work. Are you doing strictly Ibanez stuff?

hey ! im somebodys dad !! - whaddya mean
no I dont just do Ibanez stuff. but if you wanted an exact replica of the PRS neck it would take time and im rammed with work at the moment.
im not trying to do myself out of work I just wouldnt want you getting impatient that it was taking too long.
BTW, im not an official vendor here and im not sure where touting for work puts me er... not that I did tout exactly but you know what I mean

Since you are saying that you want a strat , you're most feasible solution is to buy a neck from warmoth that is as close to PRS dimensions as possible.Either that or buy the neck with an over sized profile and shape it yourself with a straight edge scraper and sand paper.

Either way, I don't think waiting a year for a master luthier to build a neck will yield a better neck. Worst case scenario, buy a warmoth neck with all your basic specs and have a real luthier shape it to the PRS profile.

Both of them will make you necks.

Re: Recommend me a neck builder (preferably UK)

sorry to dig up an old thread but i came across a mention of my name so though i would join up and chime in

firstly - i am not a dad.. that comment really made me chuckle last night, i get some really weird comments about my name but that may possibly be the strangest... never met any of my dads generation called wez (a recent customer jokingly accused me of changing it from les to sound cooler)

anyway, thx to jaden for the link to my poor website, hoping to change that soon but the guitars come first!!

i am not actually a full time guitar builder - its something i do between the day job at a school (hence the frequent comments about my name, Vegetables, venerable, vunerable, vanilla balls to name a few)

i do do replacement necks but really only want to take on the more unusual stuff.. for standard strat stuff its really worth considering warmoth or any of the others mentioned here - jonathans (feline guitars) work is good, not tried the sims stuff

warmoths fat or 59 profiles are worth looking at if you like prs wide fat necks
