Recording a bass guitar with a POD or similar?

I think I'll get a Pod XT, for recording direct to the computer via USB. Is it possible to get good bass tones from it? I won't buy a Bass Pod

Maybe I can use its interface to model the bass sound on the computer with software, or a similar unit that can do both bass and guitar?

I just got some decent bass tones out of my Flextone II yesterday, so I'd assume it's extremely possible I had fun with a Marshall setting with a little distortion to it, and the Line6 Clean setting was nice and bass heavy when I wanted it to be.

I've gotten some really nice bass sound from Native Intruments Guitar Rig. It's software so you'd need a decent sound card that uses asio drivers. But I was very impressed with the sound.
