Ride The lightening tone on an x100b

Does anyone else have this amp that can help me out? I am looking for the early 80's metallica tone. I am trying to do this with my carvin x100b. I am pretty close, but even with the graphic eq there is like this extra bass that I can't get rid of. Any suggestions for setting the eq.

You're going to need more than just the x100b to get that sound.

the new ones have a auto bias but the old ones also had a manual bias and a internal switch to bypass the tube selector

put a 6550 in it, run it hot, and turn down the bass...youll get it close, also use a metalzone

tis might help you depending on how old the amp is

i dont really think using a metal zone would help the amps distortion..

are you kidding me, a metal zone pedal is one of simplest ways to change the shape of the envelope and simple distortion drive, the rest..push the uppers on teh amp all the way, along with about 1/10 mids and about 4/10 bass...and full outputdrive on the amp...easily

on my buddies jcm800 1404 6550 circuit theres no pedal better than a metal zone, trust me we tried them all

the metal zone was the perfect pedal to drive up that amp, most other pedals seemed hollow right into the high gain input

but no really a metal zone is a great pedal, and the rest of the drive is up to the amp really

i find that pedals can shape distortion a bit, but its all mostly how the amp takes it and spits it out, but that my 2 cents

That said, you may need an EQ or parametric EQ in the FX loop.

I think they started using Boogie after RTL. To my best recollection, they were still on 100w Marshalls with Tube Screamers up front (or maybe James had a modded Marshall, and Kirk had a stocker with the TS though it might've been a Boss, I read it somewhere quite a bit ago), then switched to the Mark IIC some time before Puppets.

id trade my MT-2 for a boss od-2 or even a ds1 lol

Actually, James used a Seymour Duncan Invader.

I know, old thread - just thought I'd point that out.

A lot of that bright tone you're hearing on RTL is a combination of James' Epiphone Flying V (alder body), the Duncan Invader, and the modded Marshall Plexi.
