Rocktron Chameleon 2000

I might've asked this before (can't remember). *Has any messed with the Rocktron Chameleon 2000 processor? *What was your take on it? *Currently, I'm running 10 pedals & I'd like to simplify my rig. *I'm looking for a reasonably priced effects processor that not only sounds great (tonewise), but is also idiot-proof for guys like me who hate to go through 1000 different menus just to change one parameter. *I've heard the Rocktron fits the bill.

I've tried the Digitech 2120 in the past & I absolutely hated everything about it within a few months. *I have 2 pet peeves that a rack processor must accomodate:
1) NO delays between the switching of different patches! *There's nothing I hate more than to have my signal interrupted by a 1/2 second glitch.
2) It must have excellent tone. *The Digitech was WAY too "digital" sounding to me. *
***Also, it would be nice to be able to change effects parameters "on the fly", if possible.

Anyway, enough ranting. *Any help would be much appreciated. * I've done about all the tap-dancing I care to do w/ my current setup. HELP!

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

Before i bought my rocktron voodu-valve, i of course checked out the chameleon 2000. *The price was very inviting. *Tone/distorion wise it was good, it sounded close to other rack stuff rocktron made.

the reason i bought the voodu instead of the cham2000 is the EQs: *is the cham2000 you get one post distorion eq only, and if I remember correctly (it's been a while) you only get a level control for each band (low, mid, treble, presence) and you dont get to play with the frquency and bandwith of each eq band. *With the voodu, the possibilities are *enless*. *you can almost make a humbucker sound like a single coil, if you wanted...

The cham2000 hass less features, less versatility, but has good tone and is quite affordable too!

so...
1- I don't think you'd have to worry about that.. never heard a rocktron unit of any kind pause between patche changes.
2- Excellent is subjective... it has a rocktron tone, i like it, you may or may not. *The obvious advice is: go to your local store and try it out!!

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

IMHO you couldn't go wrong with any Chameleon (I don't think there are differences in the various editions?)...in its price range I think its one of the best. *I tried it side by side with a Voodu Valve with the same settings (on several patches), and they were really close, but as Lwi metiuoned, it apparently has a few extra features.

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

a few precisions:

the original chameleon is virtually identical to the voodu valve, except that the voodu has a 12ax7 tube (both have all the same options and parameters and operate the exact same way).

therefore, the chameleon 2000 has less features than the original chameleon... *Rocktron said the cham2000 is not an updated version of the original, it's a different architechture, but sounds good nonetheless. *the cham2000 was designed to be their 'affordable' unit.

The original chameleon is no longer in production, if you can find one used, try it out!

ps, if you want to see the capabilities of different rocktron units, i suggest you check out the manuals on their site. *(www.rocktron.com)

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

Interesting, didn't realize they cheaped out on the 2000. *Makes sense that the original were almost the same (Cham v. Voodu)...I could hear a diff with the 12ax7, but it was very slight.

I'd find a used older Chameleon...I've seen them for under $300...or a Voodu for a few $$ more.

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

Thanks for the info guys! *I'll definately do some more research. *Are there any other processors worth checking out in that price range?

Rocktron Chameleon 2000

You could check out a POD, but that's a different animal. *If you don't care for Digitech (I don't either), I can't think of anything else besides Rocktron for the money. *All the best.

Re: Rocktron Chameleon 2000

I have since started my own thread
thank you

hi, I am new hear so greetz to all :-)

I have a
Rocktron Chameleon 2000

that has some issues, the function select pot seems to be partial broken some how, it will not scroll properly to the next function i.e preamp then up to reverb ect

the only way to reach say, the reverb section is to gently apply pressure to the left or right while turning the knob, even it won't stay on the patch name ...

how do I solve this on a disability fixed income

thank you in advance :-)
