Settle Some Confusion - Cables

Is it harmful in any way to use a mono cable (of any kind) in a stereo input or output jack?

Unless otherwise specified in owners manual, you should NEVER use a mono cable in place of a stereo cable. Tip-sleeve (as opposed to TRS - Tip-Ring-Sleeve) plug will short one of the inputs/outputs to ground which can be fatal for your equipment if it's not designed to handle this situation correctly.

Cool, thanx! That settles it, and now I can convince my brother of what I already knew.
