Should i trade a Marshall for this Stained Glass Audio custom Amp?
Ive been trying to get rid of my Mint
marshall
dsl100 jcm2000 for $900 on craigslist. A guy called and said hes going on tour in november and needs a backup amp, he wants the jcm2000.. he wants to see if ill trade him for a Stained Glass
Audio
amp, he said its this new company thats releasing heads in 2009, but he got a custom shop one early.. he said its $2600?! but it doesnt say anything about pricing on the site. so i just dont want to get screwed over!
heres the site:
http://www.stainedglassaudio.com/
he also said its a 50 watt. he also said it has a configuration with a single channed and two gain stages (like a cornford mk50).. should i do it? im really worried because ive never heard of the company before.. But it says on the site they are all point to point wiring and made one at a time.. someone help me out!

Re: Should i trade a Marshall for this Stained Glass Audio custom Amp?
oh and i could always sell it for way more than i could sell the dsl100.. but i dont think alot of people will buy it because most people havent heard of these amps, including me. in the bio on the site, a co founder of bogner joined with the guy to start building these amps..

Try it before you trade, if you like it more then trade. If not, no harm done.

Jim what do you think of the sound samples on the site compared to your Marshall. I have a dsl50 by the way.

well i dont use the dsl100, it just sits in my closet waiting for it to get sold! i want to get a bogner xtc 101b, thats why im selling it. i couldnt really compare the two, except the dsl100 is more versatile, but its not a boutique amp.. what do you think?

Ok, listened to the tone samples, and I don't dig it at all. You should go check it out in person, though. I don't think point to point wiring should really mean anything. If it sounds great, and is hand wired then that's great. Bogner, Soldano, Fuchs, etc don't have their status simply from the construction methods and components. However, it'll probably sound better than what I heard through computer speakers. If it does then great, you might get your hands on an amp that might be worth a hefty price at some point. I do find it suspicious that someone wants to trade his boutique, high priced amp that's sooooo great for a backup amp simply because it's not channel switching. Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen, Joe satriani etc etc etc have used single channel amps with great results by using...ta daaaaa, volume knob and/or a pedal.

LIke the others said. Try it out and if it's cool then get it if not then pass.
I gotta say they're kinda ugly. And do you really liek the Exctasy? I played with a guy who had one and I was unimpressed, but then again I was unimpressed with his playing as well. He traded his Mesa Roadster for it too.
Is the XTC the same as an Exctasy? I should have asked this first being that I'm not sure.

Yeah, it's the same. That's pretty bad when your playing makes an xtc sound poor.

It wasn't poor sounding tonally, I just wasn't impressed for the price they go for. But, yeah the guy should work on his playing more. Keep in Mind they go for ¥620,000 which roughly translates to $6,200. Head only. I don't know they're price point in The States.
I was a Mesa man through and through when I had one. I still have yet to hear an amp that trumps a great Mesa in the gain department to my ears. There are some brands that are equal and those that are different, but something better? Not yet IMO. Cleans are a different story entirely.

The ecstacy classic sells new here in austin for 4,200. The ecstacy 101b for 3,600. That is a lot of cash for a head. I'd rather get a Rivera personally.

That's what I mean. For the price you can get something that is amazing, and probably cheaper. But that's all opinion.

you guys i would never EVER, but the ecstacy 101b new for $3600, im waiting for some more to get on the bay because there they go for $2000 like brand new. ill never buy a amp head brand new ever again because the resale value is half of what you bought the darn thing for. and the xtc is amazing check the youtube vids.
