So whats your favorite Celestion...?

I'm thinking about building a custom cab for a Rivera M100 head. Celestion speakers seem to be the most popular so im going with them. What kinds of Celestion's do ya'll use?

mmm..... look at this RosewoodCab * *

i've only ever tried the v12-80's (in a 4 x 12 i built) and the g12b-150 that come stock in the marshall 1 x 12's i had, they are both pretty good.

the v12's are deeper (they are recommended for 7 strings guitars) but they are also in a 4 x 12 which has better bass, i have never heard of anyone complainign about vintage 30's, so i'd go with those

Vintage 30's. *None of the others have that same warmth and bottom end.

I totally disagree.

I find the G12M-70's have more low end and are tighter.

I just prefer the tone/feel of the Vintage 30's.

I like the ones in my old beat up marshall cab! They had bronzy/gold backs on them, but I have no idea what they are... The cab's quite old as well, but whatever they are, they sound good!

*greenbacks on the top cabinet and vintage 30's or g12m-75 on the bottom cab, the greenback give a more broken up sound that really brings out the high end and the 30's or the 75's are nice and tight for the low end.

I have a custom-built 2x12 with a Greenback and a Vintage 30. It sounds sweet.

I'm thinking of building another mixed-speaker cab. Maybe a 2x12/2x10 with 12" Celestions and 10" Jensens.

Celestion have spec comparisons and suggestions for styles of music on this page, which might help you pick the right speakers for the job.

I prefer 25 watt greenbacks over vintage 30's. *They sound a bit warmer to my ears. *I replaced the vintage 30's of my Mesa 2x12 cabinet with 25 watt greenbacks a while back and really liked the change.

Hmmm...those vintage 30's have been sitting in boxes for the past year or so, maybe it's time to sell them...

If you poke around here http://www.celestion.com/pro/pro.htm you'll find sound files. Of course they won't sound like the real speaker in front of you, but might be helpful in discerning the diferences.

I like the 70 watters better than the 30's... they seem to be more focused. *I still prefer Eminence speakers though. *VHT and Budda use Eminence... I've compared my Eminence (SP?) loaded 4x12 with a Celestion 70 watt loaded 4x12. *The Eminence cab had a much warmer sound... the Celestion cut better but seemed kinda harsh for my taste. *The Eminence cab fit me better.

The best Celestion I have ever heard are the Blue series, which use Alnico magnets (aka awesome tone). The problem is they are only like 15W each, so they wouldn't do in a cab for a 100 watt amp. *Just sharing my favorites though.
