Soldano rackmount amp thing... - what is this thing?

I was at a local guitar store, (the only Bogner dealer in Austin), and they had a used rackmount amp from soldano. *It was blue, and i dont remember what it was called. *It appeared to have four independent channels, and one set of controls for a master section for tweaking during live performance. *it also appeared to have a midi interface or something, it had an led screen and some colored buttons on it. *I dont know what it was, but it was really big, made by soldano, and was $1500 used, though if it sounds like an slo-100 it's obviously worth it. *Tell me Please! LOL

Soldano rackmount amp thing...

I looked on the soldano website, and apparently it is the x-99 rackmount preamp. *I dont think $1500 is good for a preamp. *Maybe if it had a power amp section with it, of course this is soldano, but still a used unit none the less. * *I still want to know about it, in case anyone's had any run-ins with it. *I'd try and play it at the shop but the guys there are dicks about trying out anything. *They have this opinion that if you go in there for a $2000 Rivera head or a Bogner or Soldano head for $3000, you should trust that it sounds amazing or you should know what it sounds like already. *Too bad they're the only Bogner dealer in Austin, and pretty much the only place to get Rivera, Soldano and THD, VHT periodically..etc. *I hate Guitar Center here, everythings about Mesa or Marshall.

I believe that the X99 is basically a souped up preamp section from an SLO100, so it's definately the best starting point for the SLO tone from Rack seperates. They used to do a "Monobloc" power section that was... yep you guessed it the power amp section of the SLO100. When coupled together you basically got a midi controlled programmable SLO100.

If the store messes you around, I'd get on the phone and talk to the manager and make an appointment to test the gear out at "gig volumes" I've found sotre that have given me hassle in the past often change their attitude if you take the effort to arrange to try out the gear.

Soldano rackmount amp thing...

Thanks dude, I love the soldano sound. *This one looked bigger than the one that was shown on the internet, a whole lot bigger than 2 rack spaces they described, it was about 4 or so rack spaces. *Im definately going to arrange a trial..thanks.
