Sonic Stomp

A couple of people have told me i should put a sonic stomp into my rig. Why? What is it, does anyone use on?

I want something that will maybe round off my lead tone alittle and make it more bubbly and less gainy but still have a lot of harmonics. Will this do that?

Re: Sonic Stomp

Try it and see for yourself. I had a couple different Sonic Maximizers with different rigs and I found it made ok gear sound better but made good gear sound like garbage.

People that like them seem to think they are some magic box of awesome though and they swear by them.

Re: Sonic Stomp

I have tried them on crappy solid states but not my rig. I made the mistake of buying a MXR dyna comp after loving it on a SS amp. When i got it home and put it on the Stiletto i hated it. Now i am stuck with the danm thing.

Personally, if you have a Stiletto, I wouldn't waste the money on one but if you can borrow one and check it out it wouldnt hurt.

Re: Sonic Stomp

Some people claim the BBE will make a tube amp sound "too digital" but it's all in your settings. I had one, and I just sold it. I use a Hughes and Kettner Switchblade head a Fractal Audio Axe-FX Ultra so the BBE at that point was a bit too harsh so I got rid of it. In my studio setup though, I still have a BBE 482 rack because once and a while it's necessary to brighten up a track.

I used to play a Madison Divinity head and the BBE Sonic Stomp added a little more life to the head. It just depends on your application.
