Sound Attenuators

Can sound attenuators (e.g. THD Hot Plate) only be used in connection with an external speaker? I'm trying to find out if I can use one on a combo amp w/o hooking up an external speaker. If not, is there any other (safe) way to get good saturation at household volume on say a 50-watt tube amp?

Re: Sound Attenuators

If the speaker is connected via 1/4'' jack, you just plug the attenuator between the speaker and the amp. If there is a cable soldered directly to the speaker, you'll need to do a little soldering work.
