I need some speakers to hook up my POD HD500 to for jamming with a band. I don't require blistering volume or supreme sound quality, but I need enough headroom and definition for my 7 string to sound clear and to have enough power to be heard with a drummer and bassist.
I'm thinking a single, powered 400W PA speaker would be sufficient, and I'd like to keep my budget under $300.
Would you recommend a 12 or 15 inch speaker, and what brand would you recommend or have had experience with?
Also, if there's another setup you would recommeond I'm all ears. I'd like to stick with a solid state setup as I already have tube amps/speaker cabinets. The goal is to have a setup that accurately reproduces the sounds I get with my Pod loud enough to balance with a drummer/bassist.
Those do look really nice, but are a bit much in the price realm for this application.
What would be the minimum wattage/speaker size for the volume I'd need without straining the setup? I would imagine 400W with a 12 or 15 inch speaker would be plenty, but this is my first venture into active speaker setups .
Maybe take a look at Electro-Voice ELX112P. This is price at $599. I A/B EV ELX112P with the QSC K12 and found it to be very close in sound. I pick up the K8 because it was more portable.
A 400 watt pa speaker should be loud enough for a single guitar setup, stereo would be awesome the thing is with solid state pa setups is you want more than enough volume as you dont want to be cranking it fully...
The fractel guys seem to like expensive FRFR monitors but any flat response pa style setup should work...
