Speakers! Damn speakers!

I've just went through 100's of threads on all the forums looking for speakers to put in my new 4X12. My head is spinning. The cab I have right now has 2 V30's and 2 G12H-30's(Ann.) and I'm looking for another flavour. .
I need suggestions fast. I'm a classic rock guy that likes crunchy mids. Don't get me wrong, this set up is good for mids also but its just missing something. I like the sound of Schenker,Matthias Jabs,Dimartini,Lynch,Eddie and the boys.
Help me pleaasssseeeee........

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

have you played a marshall 1960s cab? thery have celestion g12t-75s which have a fairly "hot" style sound.

may i ask what head you have , and your guitar and pickups ?

http://www.avatarspeakers.com/ is the place to get cabs or speakers , you may e-mail them up and see if they can offer you any advise.

I still have the 4 75's that I took out of my 1960B cab to put in 2 V30's and 2 G12H-30's. I have Marshall 50 watt heads ('79 JMP MV and a David Bray modded 1987X) Main guitars: GMW w/EVH Duncan and Wolfgang w/Dimarzio Air Zone.

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

the celestion g12h

If the G12M was to become a classic, it was the G12H with its heavier magnet that really characterised the sound of rock guitar for the new breed of player that emerged in the 1960s. Listen to any Hendrix recording and the chances are you’re hearing the unmistakably creamy tones of the G12H. Originally available in two versions – low resonance for bassists and high resonance for guitarists – both were in fact embraced by guitar players for their unique tonal characteristics.

The new Celestion G12H is a perfect recreation of the low resonance model, right down to the voice coil former material, glue formulations and vintage, solder-only tag panel. Suitable for use in all cabs, it exudes thick, syrupy tones with a deep, growling bottom end.

the g12m

Way back in the 1960s, Celestion released a version of the popular G12 guitar loudspeaker called the G12M. These days nicknamed the Greenback, with its medium weight magnet this speaker had a tone that was silky smooth and warm, while still retaining the brightness and punch necessary to cut through the rest of the band. The Greenback was also a highly articulate speaker, perfect for the pioneering lead guitarists of the time. A classic had been born.

Over subsequent years, the Greenback has evolved and remains popular with guitarists and amp manufacturers to this day. As the speaker developed, though, its tonal characteristics moved away from those of the original ’60s model.

Adhering precisely to the design notes and specifications for the original speaker, re-discovered during our recent factory move, and using exactly the same materials and construction techniques, Celestion has recreated the classic 1960s G12M for a new generation of rock and blues guitarists.

you may check out the eminence patriot and redcoat lines , i have owned a couple of them and been fairly pleased , if you want mids stay away from the texas heat though .

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

Hey thanks a lot J. Its funny you mention that because I just got a line on some Heritage G12H-30 "greenies" w/55Hz cones with about 20 hours on them for a good price. What do you think?

The G12-75s are considered particularly nasty and gnarly (in a good sense) by the dude who writes the Tube Amp books for musicians (Aspen Pittman?)

Try 2 V30s and 2 G12Ts mounted in an X pattern. The G12M greenback is a nice mix with the V30 as well.

Re: Speakers! Damn speakers!

Try the Weber C-1230. It's a copy of the original, NOT reissue, Celestion G12H. G12H's are perfect for what your describing, but the reissues stink. The Heritage Celestion G12H's are very good, but the Weber C-1230's are way cheaper, and just as good.
