Stereo and Mono Instrument Cables

Whats the difference between Stereo and Mono Instrument Cables? Will it effect the quality of my sound? Cause I have a mono Live Wire Soundhose cable is there any difference?

stereo is really only useful if you have two inputs on you amp/ guitar

+1, unless you're using a stereo signal, it won't be any different than a mono cable. That being said, for longer stereo signal cables, using balanced lines can make a difference in keeping noise out of the signal chain.

how does the whole thing work? do i really need a slave/master head and all?
