Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
Sorry this has probably been asked a million times on here, but could someone explain what Steve uses each pedal for? Does he have one on at all times when using distortion to push his amp and other for boost?

So plays normally with distortion and then, when a solo comes up he turns on a pedal?

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
What i meant in my original question was, how does he uses them in conjunction with one another. I'm 99% sure he uses the Tube Screamer for solos.

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
Steve uses the DS-1 as a boost simply for the Legacy nothing more but I didn't know he was using the tube screamer??? I can only remember SRV using the tube screamer.

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
They're both used for boosting. He has a regular DS-1 and a Keely modded tubescreamer, the TS-10. If I remember correctly, he likes the sound of the DS-1 better, but the Tubescreamer is less muddy/noisy for some of the really fast parts.

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
O.k thanks for your help, I've just found this realy informative interview from Steve ...
http://www.guitarplayer.com/story.asp?storycode=9233
“I use two distortion pedals: an
Ibanez Tube Screamer
and a Boss DS-1. The DS-1 puts out the fattest sound of any
distortion pedal
I’ve heard—and I use it about 70 percent of the time onstage—but it doesn’t track very well when I play fast, so I switch to the Tube Screamer.'

No, he uses a regular DS1. His modded DS1 hasn't been on tour for years.

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
So, if you're a guy like Steve who has his own signature
tube amp
and that is supposed to get "the sound", why would you have to incorporate pedals (especially 2 distortion pedals) to get your sound?
I thought the signature tube amp was supposed to get you "that sound"...
I had a discussion with a guy in another band who was commenting on my setup (a ss Waller DFX65 combo) and telling me how I should get a tube amp and that they're way better and that he has a "custom made" Tube Screamer pedal for his amp, blah, blah, blah...
I asked him if his tube amp was so great, why does he need pedals? He didn't have an answer.

Re: Steve's DS-1 and Ibanez Tuber Screamer
I use a Tuber Screamer right after my DF-2, for that crazy "spud-sound"!
Mr. Potatohead turned me on to this.
