Stompboxes

Some time ago i read a thread about that matter. I know a guitar player who has both incredible technique, feeling and a fantastic tone. The most important part of his equipment he says is his POD. He gets the Malmsteen tone with as much as my ears tell me 100% accuracy. He told me that the POD is capable of doing a lot of other tones with the same accuracy. So i ordered me that thing. On the other hand i heard people say the following "get some high quality stompboxes and not that crap". So what would be a high quality stompbox? And are these high quality things really that much better?

Re: Stompboxes

I think it's just personal pereference. I like stompboxes, some people like mutli-effecs like the POD. None is "better" than the other. Just go with what works for you.

Re: Stompboxes

Apples and oranges. I own a pedal board full of pedals that I prefer but I see the advantages of having a Pod for simplicity and for times when my big amps and pedal board aren't a feasible solution.

I have a buddy that uses the Pod Pro when travelling so he doesn't have to worry about much gear and plugs right into the PA. He nails the tones he needs for his stuff thru the Pod and is perfectly content with it.

As long as you have the patience to sit and dial in the tones you want you should be happy with the Pod. I loose patience easily but I might grab the Pod Pro at some point if I get hooked up to tour Armed Forces bases at some point with the USO. Less stuff to get broke

Re: Stompboxes

In most instances the pod and similar devices will get you by, but as you develop your skills and tastes, you'll begin to recognize that the real thing these boxes try to emulate are VASTLY superior. It's just a matter of experience and preference.

Re: Stompboxes

Thanks Rotti and screamndeamon69. What POD would you guys choose? I chose the PODXTlive, because you have the volume pedal and wahwah which you havn`t with the PODpro.

By the way here is one of his clips recorded directley in the PC with his POD.
He makes the backing tracks all by his own.

Re: Stompboxes

Awesome chops! Smoother tone than Yin Yang gets IMHO

bamm is right about authenicity of pedals over modeling. You can still get close with the Pod stuff but in the end they just model the real thing so MANY people prefer the real thing. Taste and preference.

I'm not sure how happy I will be with Pod stuff since I've been spoiled with real pedals and the simplicity of set up and adjustment of my pedals compared to scrolling around and hunting for tones. I might still give it a go since carrying my big amps will be a serious burden on small tours.

Re: Stompboxes

Wow, a very good player indeed, he sits and plays the same style as malmsteen did in his instructional

Good move, the GT-8 is a fantastic board. My first multi effect board was a Zoom 3030. Then I got my first crybaby and Boss MD-2. Now stompboxes are the only thing that will do for me personally, I couldn't go back to the 3030 now.

I had one, wasn't for me but it is a VERY powerful system. I hope you like it.

BTW - of course you would only put the pedals you need in the pedal board, why would you put something you DON'T need in it?
{just being a smart a$$ }
