STRINGS!! for a 7!

Simple question right?

well, I want to bust out the flatwounds as they have been my string of choice on 6 strings for a while but I need some advice.

I am thinking of continuing to use the D'ADDARIO CHROME FLAT 13-56.

Is 56 going to be ok for the low B string? (My first 7 sorry) or do I need to move up to a 58-60? I hope not as it is much easier to grab a bunch of .10 high E's.

Just asking the basic questions here guys.

Re: STRINGS!! for a 7!

the best strings for a 7 string....assuming u play either regular tuning with a top B, or down tuning 1/2 step to 1.5 steps down, id have to say for low tension tones its all about the dean markley super-v

the material is very dense with tone and has a super bright ultra long lasting harmonics, they will take ur squeals about 3 times longer.....

but for a 6 string, not soo good, i didnt like em
but for the 7 string, when i played with my 7th string in either drop b or drop c, they gave me more tone than thoseddarrio chrome, and the pitch of the edge of the windings on the strings dont have as much of a higher output when strung lke the super v

All a matter of taste. Some people go down to .052 on the low B for roundwounds, others need .068's... all subjective. Try out and see how you like it.

Re: STRINGS!! for a 7!

I use a custom set on my Jackson 7. It goes

10, 13.5, 17, 26, 36, 49 then 64

I think that's right. Basically as the strings get thicker the tension is greater, this to my ears gives a great tonal improvement over regular sets. Also makes playing a little easier too as the tension of the strings isn't all over the place.
