Re: sustainiac question

Sustainers will only work best if installed in the neck position. I don't think you'll be able to get it to work very well in the middle position, if at all. You could try, but sustainers require major surgery on the guitar in order to be fitted, and it would be quite a shame to waste time/effort and a mass of wood to find it doesn't work in the middle position.

If you do get one, remember to turn it off when you stop playing. First day I had mine I left the sustainer switched on. Even though the amp is off, if you leave a cable plugged into the jack, the sustainer will stay on. Took me an hour to figure out what the faint OOOOOOOOO sound was coming from until I realised I left it on and the strings were still ringing.

Re: sustainiac question

If you look into the site they answer that question.

They say that if put in the middle the sustainer's magnetic field is to close to the Bridge Pickup or something like that.

They said that the sustainer would have a significantly less amount of power and won't sustain notes correctly. You might also get really loud feedback/squealing.

Re: sustainiac question

Hey there,

you need to move the sustainer as close to the middle of the string as possible to get the maximum effect. The closer it is to the bridge the harder it is for it to move the string.

The sustainiac system is tiny compared to the Fernandes one and can be installed without modification in most guitars. I put one in a JS without any extra routing.

Re: sustainiac question

Basically, don't put it in the middle, put it in the bridge, and beware the routing task.

No, you have to put it in the neck!
