TC Electronic PolyTune
Not the most showstopping thing seen at
NAMM
but damned clever all the same :

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
Probably the best
tuner
around. I think this migh take over from the Boss TU-2. Boss just brought out the TU-3 recently, so i think they are going to be pissed when they see this.

Eh, it's far more accurate than say your average run-of-the-mill tuner (e.g. Boss TU-x) but Peterson tuners are even more accurate than the Poly Tuner. For live use, any of them will do but I'd still rather have a Peterson strobe tuner for doing intonation.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
Never used the Peterson, but strum all six strings open at once with the PolyTune and all 6 are on show on the digital screen. You can see straight away which strings need adjusting.
I assume the Boss TU-2 is the biggest seller around, but this could take over as it's the same price or close to it.

So what does the low B on a seven string do to it?

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
That is pretty cool. I may have to look into that tuner. As of right now though, the Sonic Research tuner is still my favorite.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
I've got the Turbo Tuner as well but this thing is pretty cool. Convenient and reasonably priced, actually a pretty good deal considering the competition at that price. I'd be interested to hear what the low B answer is but other than that, it seems like an innovative and clever product that should do well.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
I guess the low B would confuse it in polyphonic mode, but it also has a regular chromatic mode. Or you could just tune the top 6 strings first and then do the low B.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
It has to go into chromatic mode if you use a 7 string, or any kind of drop tuning/open tuning. If you go to a lower standard tuning (D, C standard) it'll still work in polytune mode, but any other tuning wont work, so its a bit gimmicky IMO.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
If you play live and can't determine which string is out of tune, this tuner might come in handy. It's not very accurate either. It is a step in an interesting direction, but is it really needed? We should settle for a tuning fork.

Re: TC Electronic PolyTune
I seen one youtube demo that wasn't great. The poly mode easily stabilizes as an interface. But then the guy hit individual strings and says "woah, that's out" and conitinued to retune using the mono needle which isn't as good compared to the Pitchblack which has a smooth changing between LEDs and therefore more accurate and stable too. I always hated needle and strobe imitations. A real strobe live is just annoying to see it spinning and trying to judge when to stop tuning but fine for intonation. Its time the EdgePro had a Tool or easy adjuster for this - Fenders still rule here yet all it takes is a screw-driver!!!
