Re: Tell Me The Best Overdrives You've Tried
The MT-2 and DS-1 are distortions.
My favorites are still the TS9 and modded SD-1.
I'm also fond of the Ibanez JD9, which us right on the border between OD and DIST

Same here! Others have come and gone over the years, but for adding a bit of a boost to an already overdriven amp for solos, nothing has been able to touch my SD-1. In front of many tube combo amps and heads over the years, and now permanently in front of my lifelong dream amp - Soldano SLO. Gives me that subtle boost and sustain I want without altering the tone of the amp it is in front of.

Re: Tell Me The Best Overdrives You've Tried
I use my Visual Sound volume pedal (with the output gain set to max) to overdrive my amp. I used to use an overdrive, but I found that just pushing more volume has a better effect, and it's variable with a volume pedal
There's also a 2nd output channel, set to unity gain, on my volume pedal too, so switching the cable from output 1 to 2 disables the boost.
I've found this to be the best solution so far. But if your using your overdrive to cut out low frequencies, then i don't think this solution will work for you too much.
Toodles, Julz.

MIJ SD1 with Marshalls
My Route 66 is my hands down favorite with everything else.

Re: Tell Me The Best Overdrives You've Tried
I had an old SD1 that was killer back in the 80's I think it was. I was playing thru a Fender Twin reverb that I had at the time that sounded great on the clean channel, and cranked espeically when I really cranked it up and then used the SD1. It was a jap made version if memory serves me..
I still say the best I've had was the American made Tech21 pedal. It had three options, but I used the Marshall option almost exclusively with my Peavey Ranger. The cool thing was, I'd get killer gain with it, but could turn down the volume knob and it would clean right up, which to me is the measurement if a pedal is good. I like a pedal to be responsive so I can dig in and get killer pings and then go to almost clean with soft picking. That's hard to do.. Anybody else use a pedal that works that way? If so, what model?

Alot of people are saying the boss SD-1, I have to agreee. The warmth you can get from it is amazing, Especially when paired with a vintage strat!

Re: Tell Me The Best Overdrives You've Tried
My current pedalboard has many drives that are quite different from one another in function and tone...
-Wampler Super Plextortion
-Wampler Pinnacle
-Freekish Blues Alpha Drive
-Marshall Guv'nor Plus
-Wampler TripleWreck
-Marshall Jackhammer
-Maxon OD808
-Boss Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb
-Custom Audio Electronics MC401
thru a Boss DD3 and EHX HolyGrail Nano for ambiance into a Bogner Alchemist.
Any tone, anywhere

Re: Tell Me The Best Overdrives You've Tried
Anyone try that Mad Professor Golden Cello or the Way Huge Pork Loin?? I was thinking of trying one as a boost on top of my amps dirty channel for solos.
Old mainstay has always been a TS-9 though

Look into Jetter pedals - I'd love to try the Red2 - I've heard/read lots of good things.
