gonko pedals - Tech21 overdrive / custom volume pedal / bad horsie

noise box - Marshall anniversary head with an angled 4/12 cab (not blue )

effects in rack (looped) - g major / knight rider tuner / whammy

more often than not though for recording i just go straight into the PC through a POD adding effects from the rack if needed.

Guitars:
- 1993 Ibanez RG370 (Japanese, Jewel Blue, with original Edge - nobody believes this guitar exists but the were just for Asia/Australia).
- Ibanez seven-string mongrel: 2000 RG7620 neck, RG7420 Magenta Crush body with Dimarzio Tone Zone 7 and and Blaze pickups.
- 1996 Ibanez RGR470 Deep Wine. Reverse headstock, sharktooth inlays. Mmmmm. Plays like buttuh.
- 199something Ibanez RG320 for 'Bad Horsie' tuning. I've played this guitar about three times since I bought it last year.
- handmate Telecaster replica with mahogany body, maple neck, Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder tele pickups.
- Status strat copy
- homemade strat style axe with telecaster bridge and Chicken Run sticker fretboard inlays

Acoustic:
- Ibanez acoustic with f-holes, floating pickguard, abalone inlays, flamed maple back with groovy inlaid checkerboard stripe down the centre

Pedals:
Boss DS-1 (used once every six months for Eric Johnson tone)
Boss Octave (for pretending I'm the two Johns from Dream Theater at the same time)
Boss HS-2 Harmonizer (So I can play The Animal and fake 12-string sounds mainly)
DOD Envelope Filter
Dunlop Crybaby
Vintage Sola Sound passive volume pedal
Washburn compressor
Yamaha noise gate
Rocktek flanger
Rocktek phaser
Ibanez Soundtank delay
Arion Metal Plus distortion
Arion Graphic EQ
Korg AX1G
BBE Stinger

Amp:
Crate GT200 head - before you laugh, when I was amp-shopping, this particular amp went head-to-head against a Fender, Soldano, Mesa Boogie, Marshall and Peavey, and another identical Crate, and won hands-down. It has some freaky voodoo going on. The closest recorded examples of similar tones are AC/DC's entire catalogue, Vai's Die To Live and tracks 2 and 3 off Dream Theater's "Scenes From A Memory."
Crate 4X12 slant cabinet with Eminence speakers.

1970s Axiom valve PA head for blues.

My setup that I play regularly is an RG550 with EMG 85/S/81 combo into an Ibanez WH-10 into a Marshall DSL 401. I have a Kramer Pacer but I havn't finished working on it yet my first guitar is in peices with a fully scalloped board. My 'kit guitar' has a fully contoured body but doesn't have a neck or finish yet. I am also making an amp when the parts get here Acoustic wise I use nylon stringed guitars and mine is a Rodreguez model B with spruce top. I have a american Jazz bass and marshall bass amp but I am thinking of selling those to get a steinberger!!

At the moment:

ESP/LTD Eclipse EC-1000 into Marshall TSL602.

Basic, primal, loud, and mean.

In two-four weeks, depending on the particulars:

Same guitar, possibly also an EBMM Petrucci into:

Dunlop 535Q Crybaby Wah

Ernie Ball Volume Pedal (set up to control overall volume, not gain)

TC Electronics G-Major
Furman PL-8 Power Conditioner
Digital Music Corporation Ground Control MIDI Controller

ALL into:

Mesa/Boogie Nomad 45 2X12 combo. I spent an hour in front of one of these puppies this weekend, and that was ALL the time I needed to be totally sold.

My gosh, where does everyone get all the money for this stuff? My "rig", if that's what you'd like to call it, is really simple.
Guitars:
Schecter C-1+ black cherry
(someday) JEM7VWH
Pedals:
Only a dunlop Crybaby Classic (should really get me a Bad Horsie)
Oh, and the contol switches for my amp
Amp:
Fender Princeton Chorus

Maybe soon I'll get a JSX or 5150 amp, but that's all I really need, what's the reason for all of the rack gear and stuff (besides high-end delays, flangers, etc.)? The tone you search for is all in your EQ and your playing style.

Though SOME of an individual's tone does undoubtedly come from the fingers and technique, there is no arguing that the amp setup and other equipment used has a great deal to do with the end product. You ask why all the rack gear and multiple amps, etc. I say, why not? I've never heard of versatility being a bad thing.

If I'm an artist, I'm certainly going to want more colors to work with than black and white.

Ibanez RG1550
Carlsbro GLX100
Boss HM-2 distortion, Boss CE-2 chorus, V-amp2.
Only got amp yesterday, so will be sorting out whether to use v-amp or the boss effects live. in my bedroom with experimenting I'm liking the v-amp more.
