Testament's Clean Tone
Does anyone know what amp, effects, and/or what settings are used for Testament's
clean tone
in The Legacy from the album Souls of Black? BTW a clip is posted below of The Legacy if you haven't heard it before yet. Real Player is need to view the clip. Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
apperently he uses dual and triple rectifiers. the sound reminds me of some of petrucci's clean tones and he uses the
dual rectifier
.i dont hear any effects . maybe chorus.

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
Souls of Black was released in 1990 and the Rectifier didn't come out til 1991. Sounds pretty close to Metallica's tone on "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" though, with the flanging and reverb. Could be a
Mesa Boogie
or a
Roland Jazz Chorus
, or it could be direct into the board with effects, or it could be a rented amp in the studio, ya never know.

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
What Mesa Boogie do you suppose they used for The Legacy? I got this GEAR list from there official website at:
http://www.testamentlegions.com/index2.htm
and it didn't say.
GEAR:
Carvin Guitars
Dean Guitars
ESP Guitars
Mesa Boogie
Unigrip 2000
Thanks!

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
Eric Peterson used a Marshall 9000 series preamp, and Alex used an ADA MP-1. Given the time frame, if they used Boogies, I'm sure they would have used the Mark III.

According to Mesa, the rectifier came out in 1989...

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
Just digged out a back copy of Guitar World from 1990 and there is an interview with Eric and Alex, Eric used a Marshall JCM900 on the album (with Boogie tubes), whereas Alex used the ADA-mp1 into a Marshall JCM900 so he says.
The sound on The Legacy is a quite generic clean tone with chorus and some compression, the ADA can do this easily.

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
just turn a nice flange on and you'll be fine.

You are correct, my good sir. Alas, the MP-1 strikes again.
These days Eric prefers the tones of a Digitech 1101 preamp. I think Alex is still going old school to some degree.

Re: Testament's Clean Tone
I'm pretty sure in the Live in London DVD from a few years back Alex was playing a Marshall (DSL I think) and Eric had a Mesa.
