Tested: Yamaha AG Stomp

I hauled my 2027 down the GC yesterday after work and spent about 1 hour messing with the Yamaha AG Stomp, an mic modeling processor for acoustic guitars. It has 8 mic models, chorus, delay, 3 reverbs, and a passle of preset locations. Stereo SPDIF out, Analog out L&R, headphone out and an expression pedal input. Very useful features to be sure, but I don't think you can run both chorus and delay simultaneously...at least in manual mode it wasn't possible...but I could be wrong. Oh yeah, it also has midi in/out

At any rate, this thing sounds amazing. It really brought out the best of the piezo in my 2027. I swore on some settings I was holding a mic'd up Martin or Gibson. Flipping through the presets really shows what the unit can do. I think it would be an excellent addition to a recording set up for those of us that have a 2027 or piezo equipped electric. Live, it would be great to run direct to PA.

I highly encourage you to go check this unit out, it really sounded amazing. That being said, I feel it is a bit overpriced at $399, but they may come down in the future.

I am seriously considering picking this up, anyone else have experience with it?

Hm. Sounds really interesting. I might have to take one of those for a whirl with my Parker. I picked up a SansAmp Acoustic DI just to sweeten the sound of the piezos into the PA, and it really works beautifully. I can really tweak the sound of it to find the sweet spot.

Does the AG Stomp just model microphones, or can you model different guitar body types or string types? It'd be cool to make it sound like a nylon string.

I has two settings for nylon string but I don't think it is geared toward making your steel string sounds like a nylon. It is meant to be used to amplify a nylon string. It did however seem to soften the "chime" of the strings using those settings with my 2027. I didn't try any other guitar with the unit.

I used to own a Parker Fly Deluxe (in Gold) and I think it would sound amazing through the AG Stomp. Gotta love that neck.
