Re: That Slash Tone
I don't think Slash actually used any effects, besides the occasional wah and the built-in
spring reverb
on his amp.
His sound is generally just what you get when you plug a
Les Paul
into a Marshall and turn it up.

Re: That Slash Tone
Marshall Silver Jubilee will get you there, combined with a Les Paul with alnico II humbuckers.

Re: That Slash Tone
Yes, Slash uses
Seymour Duncan
Alnico II
Pro pickups
to be exact.
But most of it is in the way he attacks the strings and massages the tone out of them with his vibrato. It's more important to try and copy his playing style than to copy his gear exactly.

And lets not forget. For most guitarist on this forum it means copying Slash his style poses no real problem

Re: That Slash Tone
Slash's amp was based on a particularly nice sounding JCM 800 he had, I believe, so that era of Marshall and a good Les Paul with low powered Humbuckers should get pretty close to the Slash tone. It's worth remembering that Slash took something like a hundred guitars into the studio to record Use Your Illusion, so what you are hearing on any given track could be just about anything.

Dunno there, while I have never been a giant fan of Guns 'n' Roses, Slash is an absolutely awesome, very restrained rock guitar player, and while any of us could probably bash out the opening to Sweet Child of Mine, there is a huge amount of subtlety in his playing.

agreed. he really has a signature sound and it's always a lot harder to master those little nuances than to just learn the notes (which is the easiest part).

he does, and a signature Les Paul as well:
http://www.gibsoncustom.com/flash/pr...ash/Slash.html
SD AlnicoII & Piezos (Fishman)
effects: wah and occasional talkbox
plus his tech set-up a feedback generator (using a mesa-boogie Mk.IV IIRC) which the tech would operate for him.

Re: That Slash Tone
His signature amp is basically just a reissue of the Silver Jubilee.

Re: That Slash Tone
For wahs, he used to use a Teese RMC3. I also know he used a Boss DD-2 delay.
