The animal --> what pedal to buy ?

Hi ,

A student of mine wondered what would be a good pedal to play the theme of the Animal with with the added 5th ?
Any good pedals out there not too expensive ? (price?)

THx !!!

Cheapest unit I can come up with at the moment is the Boss HR (Harmonist). A second-hand Digitech IPS or DHP will probably be cheaper, but they are hard to come by.

No, we don't allow that here.

I believe you can set a whammy to harmonize a 5th down... Of course, you could just grab a 7-string and have that range at your disposal anyway...

Its always about the 7 string around here isn't it? It makes me sad I can't afford one!

I have come accross a similar problem, I didn't get along with the Whammy pedal, when Harmonising I prefer it to be set (maj 3, 5ths e.t.c.) So I thought I would get something else. I still haven't decided yet though I have heard mixed reviews about the boss, but amazing reviews about the Digitech rackunits (which I believe has some connection with eventide?) I think I am going to go for a multi FX though because I don't have a lot of money floating around. I am looking at the Rocktron Intellifex wt the moment, which is fairly cheap.

I have the Boss pedal. It's quite versatile but if you mix the harmony note to 100% volume you can really hear the latency between the original note and the harmony. Best to mix it to about 70%. It's a very clever pedal. You tell it what key you're playing in and it accurately creates diatonic harmonies, rather than simply transposing everything by equal steps. But for that reason it's probably not the best choice for those with a less developed grasp of music theory. You can get some horrible sounds if you step outside the scale.
It's also great for octave sounds or faking church organ or 12-string guitar sounds. And it can be used like a chorus but without the wobble. You can combine two different harmonies with the original note, and output each harmony to a separate speaker (with the original note sent to each speaker as well). A great trick is to use a crunchy distorted tone with the pedal set to a 5th down and an octave down.
