They're a mm or 2 larger than the standard pick and the tip is sharper (not as pronounced as the Dunlop Sharp, so they work great for rhythm as well as soloing). I use the 1.14 mm for electric and .88 or 1.0 mm for acoustic strumming and flatpicking.

Good luck finding them in stores. I stumbled upon these by accident while shopping for a mandolin at Elderly Instruments. (12 for $3.49)

yea is used this one!

Another Jazz III to the Ultex Jazz III convert.
I just get annoyed when I drop them on the tan carpeting at the rehearsal spot.

Jazz III's red and black for me. I also use the Green Tortex ones, but not as frequently.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

I use several depending on sound/feel I want, but the most recent ones are as follows:

Dunlop Tortex delrin 500 purple 2mm-sound a little too dark for me, but have good feel.

Dunlop Jazz III-black or red-probably the most articulate pick I've ever used, for better or worse.

Dunlop Big Stubby 2mm-very articulate, but rolls off the string in a way that feels fantastic for sweeps, great control.

Dunlop Jazz Stubby 2-3mm..usually 2mm-same as big stubby, stays in hand really well, very graceful roll off strings, very articulate, great size.

Dunlop Gels-XH (not sure on specific gauge/yellow)-Nothing fancy or spectacular about these, they were the first picks I ever used consistently. I still use them periodically(usually when I cant find a Jazz III or Big Stubby) I really like using them for acoustic single note picking)

still havent tried the ultex jazz III's yet.

update:
Lately I've been using the black jazz III tortex picks. I really like them for playing acoustic as well.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

On electric I mostly use Dunlop Big Stubby 3.0, except when I need a lighter touch for rhythm tracks when recording. For that kind of thing I use Dunlop Tortex .73's, which have been my main pick for acoustic pretty much since they started making them.

However, I think I may be changing from the Tortex to the Ultra Cool .88's for acoustic playing. Interesting pick and has a nice sound to it, especially on the 12 string. The only downside to it is that they cost anywhere between seventy-five cents to a dollar each, depending on where you get them. A little steep for picks, if you ask me.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

i use Fender 'californian' (the ones with the palm tree on) Medium for acoustic playing. As for electric i'm using either Fender 'Californians' - Heavy or Dunlop 500/Tortex Purpleypink 1.14mm

i got lots of fender picks free at a music show

also, where live (in the middle of no-where) i buy lots of the same pick in case they run out, so i have quite a few 1.14mm picks to get through

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

Ultex Jazz III. Best pick I ever played with, and I've tried just about every type known to man. I still like the blacks and reds as well, but the Ultex has a better grip.
If I could find them cheaper than $0.50/piece, I'd buy a few hundred.
