I switched to Jazz III's after buying Troy Stetina's Speed Mechanics, in which he said something like: with heavy picks the string is "attacked" when you attack it; with lighter picks there is a slight delay between the time you attack and when the string is actually "attacked" (if that makes sense). Anyway, the Jazz III's helped me improve my speed and accuracy so I agreed with Stetina

I didn't think that a pick could make any difference in my speed or accuracy at all. But, I gave in and bought some Jazz III's and oh dear god. Wow. It's amazing what you can do with the right tools.

Anyway, I bought a pack of the Jazz III's in Nylon and Tultex or however you spell it. I use both and which one I use depends on which one is within reach at the time. Mostly the Tultex though.

I think anywhere between .8 and 1mm is the perfect thickness for a pick

I remember once I got the wrong pack of picks, they're Dunlop Nylons still, just in .72 or .73mm and it was like trying to play with a piece of paper. I was so pissed at myself

I've got a pack of 1.00mm, but I always seem to gravitate back to the 1.14's.

I use whatever I can find.I've bought thousands of picks in my lifetime.Where do they all go?They really need to color the ultex jazz iii.

I use Dunlop Jazz III red or black, they are confortable and i noticed, they increased my accuracy and speed.
Sometimes they get slipy, but i scrap the surfice to get more stability.

For running scales practicing and general noodling, Dunlop tear drop Tortex 1.0mm
For general playing of songs, especially that require a bit of steady heavy strumming. Any medium pick that I can hit the strings hard with and not break them or pull them out of tune wiht a too heavy of pick while strumming. Especially Drop D stuff.

for the jazz III lovers, id advise having a go at the larger Jazz threes. there just the same but are the size of a real pick!

i use the vai picks, gilbert ones, and one in a while ill get a heavy dunlop pick

I alternate between Jazz III Stubbies, Ultex and standard Jazz III Black and or Reds, mostly depending on the song.

So today, after reading this thread recently, I went to Ishibashi to buy some strings and I though, "Why don't i buy a few different picks and see if I like anthing better than what I currently use." I got a dunlop tortex .88mm, 1mm ans a 1.14mm and the 1.14mm is now my new pick size. I don't know why but I feel I have more control. It's wierd, the .88mm feels better than the 1mm but the 1.14mm feels the best.

Speaking of heavy, Mattias Eklundh uses 2mm! How the hell could anyone deal with that?!

1.14 Tortex black jazz.
I switch to the Ultex jazz III occasionally but prefer the Tortex black jazz.
