Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

I recently started using the black tortex jazz iii's. Still haven't tried the ultex jazz picks.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

i picked up a pack of tortex black picks and ultex picks to check out, both 1mm and i have a question...is there some sort of slick finish that needs to be rubbed before these will grip the string? When i play, my down stroke seems to slide right off the string rather than plucking it. I dont have this problem with my old picks. I am confused.

Tortex IMO, have a different feel than any other pick but I've yet to try the Ultex Jazz III's

Going back to a regular pick after using one of these for a while really lets you know how good the JIII Ultex is. Regular picks are just atrocious.

I'm not exactly sure of the gauge either, but it feels like more than 1mm to me. I think probably closer to 1.38mm or something.

Ok Dee, after close to a year that we had this discussion about picks I have to admit you were "RIGHT" I am very skeptical about perfect gauge strings and the perfect magic pick and the like but I have to say after using the ultex Jazz III picks for nearly a year now there is no going back!!! it was very hard to get used to it though, since its so much smaller and I was tempted to give up many times but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. I just wanted to thank you for your recommendation mate!

I guess if you were using regular Jazz III's prior to ultex you wouldn't notice any difference. Some claim there is a difference between the black and red nylons but I don't feel there is, and I've been using them for 8+ years.

That said, no matter what they're made of, Jazz III's truly are the picks of destiny

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

I've been using the Dunlop 1.14mm Ultex in the rounded triangle shape as well as the Ultex standard 1.14mm

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

I use Jim Dunlops and Ernie Ball picks. The Ernie Ball picks I use nail polish remover to take the logo off them (they're white) then use Sharpies to make my own designs. A quick sprsy of matte finish completes it.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

All the way down the forest, at the end of the long forgotten path, here in Finland we've just had a few types of ESP picks (really only .88 and 1.0 gauges, with different grips). Slightly sharper than Dunlop Tortexes they're very good IMO.

Still, Ultex Jazz is the way.. Regular Jazzes tend to spin inside my grip no matter how I file or scratch them.

Re: The Epic Pick Thread ! (Sticky?)

Wow this thread is alive again! haha

Well.. its been a year and my tastes have changed. I now am loving the Jazz III XL picks. Great for riffing to metal songs and its sharp and thick for easy soloing. I also like the Ultex Jazz but its too small for thrash metal kind of stuff, especially when its fast stuff.
