I would think there'd be some flaws doing it post-production with the same input signal. And remember, your band-pass filters should have some sloped crossover, not be three hard lines necessarily. I'm doing it real-time, with processing and different preamps running simultaneously. That's how I know it's great, and useable, but more importantly programmable into a "modelling" scenario. If you just have one amp/one channel, then you can only start with that texture. Try multi-tracking and changing the sound of the amp each time, and then splitting the freq's. So you have different performances and drive levels at each sector. Re-feeding the J-station is a great idea too. Record straight in, and loop it three times with different models.

That's something i do while multi-tracking anyway, i just haven't been seperating via bandpass filters. The problem there is that multitrack recording has a sound all of it's own, already; i've heard it described as a light "chorusing" effect, and that may be true for clean guitar, but distorted it doesn't quite describe the texture adequately. Thankfully, it happens to be a sound i love...
I'm at work now. When I get home tonight, I'll try setting up my j-station for some re-amping... I might try doing a few feeds into my TSL, but as it's a little more expensive and probably a little more delicate, I'm hesitant to get into it until i get the hang of the process...
Either way, I'll let you know how it goes...
Also, what frequency ranges are you using? I'm trying to remember what i had off memory... i think for highs i went 5k+, mids were 2-5, low-mids were 600-2k, and lows were below 600, with like a 40hz rolloff since those frequencies aren't too useful in most mixes anyway. I wouldn't stake my life on that, though... I think I need to lower the high and mid frequencies- any other thoughts?

You'll have to decide, but I listen to the different preamps and determine where they were best. Like the rocktron sounds a little shreddy and fake in the high mids, but the lows are smooth and processed, so maybe I come in with a gritty tube pre for the mids. Well, that would be a wide mid band. But I might use a narrower band if I'm trying to just infuse some "rockman-like" smoothness to an already good tube crunch. Pretty soon we'll go to the recording forum or e-mail but I don't mind talking about this stuff, it's just a little off topic now.

Back to what bammbamm said a few posts above...who ever said that more expensive is better? Sometimes you find waaay better sounds in a more accessible piece of equipment, cost wise. What I noticed is that of course there are different gear with different sounds, but there are also same gear with different sounds. I used to have two Metal Zones, and they each sounded completely different from each other. At the same setting, one had more bite and richer harmonics, and the other one was more mellow and bass heavy. So I guess I lucked out when I got these "low end of the spectrum" amps. I don't want to sound like the guy with the best luck in the world, but I did luck out with these amps, and then on top of that, I spend a LOT of time squeezing what I can get out of each amp, and darn, they sound good. All I gotta do now is get a Universe in the summer.

Why bother when there's the 7321?
