Tonelab SE

Hey guys..
Was wondering if any of you owns a tonelab se. I'm currently using a gt6 and is contemplating to give tonelab se a shot. I had the chance to give it a try at some guy's place for 5 mins...the factory presets should really decent. But I heard from some that it's more suitable for classic tones for cleans and soft rock..not for more aggressive tones like metal and stuff. Could you guys enlighten me alittle..thank you so much

Re: Tonelab SE

I was using a GT-3 for many years and was very satisfied with it. So I was checking into either the GT-6 or the Tonelab SE when I wanted to upgrade.
I bought the Tonelab first because I liked the idea of having a 12ax7 in the circuit. BUT. After endless tweaking for days and I could not get a useful tone for my application. Very unpleased.
The effects were very weak considering the unit being 600$. I returned it of course.
So I then picked up the GT-6. Since I was already use to using the GT-3, I was comfortable within seconds and found my tone right off the bat. Very pleased.
Another thing I'd like to add is, I have spoke with many other Tonelab users and many have discovered the 12AX7 is fake. Its not even in the circuit.
When you look at it in the glass, its clearly a small LED behind the tube which trys to make it look like its lit up but the tube is completely clear.
I dont want to say Im completely sure thats the truth. But I have had many indications.
So GO BOSS. Its where its at!!!

Re: Tonelab SE

interesting madwell, where did u hear that?

lol, this reminds me of a "discussion" i had with an old singer about how the tubes in a blue voodoo head dont light up, he's like "they are too lit up" i showed him behind the tube was a little led thing, his remarks "tubes don't light up!" ha ha... i was quick to show him the back of my mesa... end of story.

as for the vox, i liked the vtx120 amp but i didnt like the tonelab se... i thought they were pretty much the same thing.

Re: Tonelab SE

From numerous customers who have returned the unit. It hasnt had great reviews from them either so go figure. Vox also claims the 12ax7 actually works as a 1 watt power amp circuit, but i really dont see how that would help or work in any practical situation.
