TriAxis - Fat Mod or not?

Im in the market for a TriAxis because of the woman I love so dearly (sorry for mushy stuff).
The Fat mod only affects the Rectifier sound right? *What does it do, and would you recommend it or not? *How much does it cost for each of the mods? *2.0 and the FAT
I'd call and ask Mesa myself, but those hosers are closed Friday-Sunday.

TriAxis - Fat Mod or not?

All triaxis made after a certain date (97?) have the fat mod and version 2.0 (which only effects the continuous control parameters). Yes the fat mod only effects the lead 1 red or the vintage orange channel on the rectifier. personally i like the mod but thats probably cause im used to it on my unit. basically the mod takes away the "shrill" highes that some customers were complaining about. it tends to give the channel a rounder sound. some thrash metal guitarists would love the old version but for me the mod was a vast improvement. im not sure how much the mod costs if you buy a used unit...guessing no more than $150. good luck...im sure youll love the triaxis!

Like Andrew said, the phat mod only affects lead 1 red.It also adds some bass while taming the highs. The mod is/was $175 to reverse/add.A new Triaxis will come with it already. However, the mod makes lead 1 red sound alot like the other modes to my ears.Part of the glory of lead 1 red is that it is SO insane. To me it's better without the phat mod.To get an idea of the tonal difference between phat and non-phat listen to Garage Inc. and then if you can listen to Live ****:Binge and Purge Mexico City. The latter being the example of non- phat and G.I. of phat.By the way,I'm talking about Hetfields sound, not Hammetts. The amps used on Mexico City are the original Dual Rectos and the phat mod restores that sound to the Triaxis.A new Triaxis also comes with the v2.0 software. Good luck.

I'd like your opinions about the triaxis...read all 52 pages of them on harmony central so i have an idea.

However, how different are the 8 amp circuits? How clean is the channel switching? Some guy said about endorsers' versions beong modded and a sansamp being better. Is this true?

BTW: i have a valve amp so i am part of the valves-onyl-rule cult
I'm also in the market once i get the cash, so i'm greedy for info right now.

hey keith...if your familiar with mesa boogie amps youll understand how different the channels are...the switching is very good when used with a midi foot controller...there is always going to be a "pop" when switching from half drive to any other option on the 290 power amp and sometimes when switching out of the deep and modern funcitons but as far as the triaxis the switching is unnoticeable (unless your flying through several presets to get to another)...ive never heard of the endorsee situation....just go buy one...you wont be dissapointed
