Troubles Tuning G string

Help me!!! I bought a vintage Fender strat a few months ago (10 years old), and here lately I'm having troubles tuning the G string. I have used my little Korg tuner, my Digitech processor tuner and my own d*** ear, but that string does not sound right. Could my intonation be out? I've never adjusted anything yet, so I'm being a girl about it here.

Re: Troubles Tuning G string

To my ears, a G-string never sounds right even when tuned. It may just be how it sounds.

Could be the wrong guage....best to buy new strings and start from scratch.

I never thought about that. I bought a new set of 10 gauge DR Extras the other day, cause I popped my high E string, so I could throw one on and see. I don't know if I was just having problems in general, but I seemed to be having troubles the other day tuning a couple of the strings. I don't know. I'm not the greatest at tuning the electric yet. Could be I'm a little retarded sometimes.

Re: Troubles Tuning G string

When I was tuning with my Digitech processor and my Korg I kept getting the notes around the string, but troubles getting some of the open strings to hit dead on. For example D string kept saying A or something to that effect.

Maybe that is possible. I've never noticed it before, but the past few days my ears have been very zoned in on it. It just seems very metallicy sounding. Like a bitter twang. Don't know how to describe it.

Re: Troubles Tuning G string

No matter what guitar I've owned, unwound G's never stay put! I've had guitars strung with heavier strings, and when a wound G was used, it would finally hold.

Re: Troubles Tuning G string

I usually don't have any problems with G-Strings. I tend to pull them off with my teeth. LOL

Check two things:

1. If you have schaller tuners on the guitar (not the vintage ones), tighten the screw on the machine head to give you a little more accuracy when tuning.

2. Adjust the intonation by turning the screw at the end of the trem that faces the end of the guitar. You should see 6 screws, and each adjusts a saddle by pulling it back (clockwise), and pushing it forward (counter-clock wise).

I would also replace the entire set of strings. Mixing brands can create a problem sometimes. Also, post some pics girl, how dare you????

I'm learning something here by reading the box. I believe I understand the coating and wrapping now. Eureka!!!

That is very funny, and could be a good way to cut your lip. (with the guitar G-string that is)

I really set myself up for punishment when I started this thread. Why couldn't the A string have been my issue?

I may, I'm not promising, post a pic on my birthday (May 24th). I haven't totally decided yet. I'm bashful. Actually, after all the hot babe pics splattered on this site lately, I'd be a disappointment by comparison probably.
